Exchange Stories

Taking Wales to the world and bringing the world to Wales.

The purpose of Taith is to create life-changing opportunities for learners and young people across Wales through international learning exchanges.

We are pleased to share the stories from some participants of the Taith programme across all sectors, who have visited countries all over the world.

The impact of our Taith project has exceeded our expectations and contributed to our aim of reducing barriers for our clients with lived experience of complex disadvantage. As non-traditional participants, many of whom who are disengaged with mainstream education, they've now found a passion to continue their adult education journey or in their words the start of a life changing journey!

Lucy Leighton, Community Services Delivery Manager, St Giles Cymru

These journeys weren't just about exploring new countries, but about proving that with the right support, every child, regardless of their needs, can embrace the world and shine.

Ryan Sheppard, teacher, Portfield Special School

Being part of a Taith project is life itself. It involves learning, sharing, negotiating, communicating, being open and generous, facing challenges and fears, and bringing ideas and people together, whichever they are, wherever they are, whatever they do. Like a community. Like life.

Sara Novo, Project Coordinator – Overseas Programme, Coleg Gwent

The trip to Sweden provided life enriching experiences for our pupils which enhanced their musical skills and confidence. These students have returned home with an appreciation for learning cultures, which enriches the classroom environment and encourages other pupils to aspire toward similar opportunities.

Rhys Roberts, manager, Sistema Cymru (Raise the Roof)

The Taith project has provided opportunities to learners that would never have ordinarily been possible. Some students had never left Wales, and yet Taith funding provided support to purchase passports, travel, accommodation, subsistence and activities funding to support learners immersing in local cultures abroad, supporting their journey on becoming global citizens. For some, this opportunity has been a life-changing event for their personal lives, careers, and even making friends from all over the World.

Richard Gordon, Senior Manager for Funded Programmes & Bids, Cardiff and Vale College.

Taith provided our schools with the opportunity to explore key aspects of our heritage whilst providing opportunities for pupils, many of whom would not have been able to engage in such experiences otherwise, with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the language and culture of a different country - diolch yn fawr iawn i Taith!

Phil Matthews, MFL coordinator, Ystrad Mynach Primary School

The 2023/24 Taith international mobility project has had a profound impact on both our learners and staff, providing life-changing experiences that have enriched our curriculum and broadened global perspectives. The partnerships we've fostered, and the real-world industry insights gained have not only strengthened our educational offerings but have also enhanced the employability and confidence of our students.

Christy Anson-Harries, Director of Learner Recruitment, Progression & Partnerships, Coleg Ceredigion
