Taith offers students and staff at Welsh universities opportunities to undergo transformative learning mobility experiences.

International learning and exchange has demonstrably positive impacts on educational outcomes, future employability and research collaboration, with these benefits even more pronounced for participants from widening participation backgrounds.

Taith will offer a comprehensive range of mobilities for the higher education sector, across all disciplines and with a wide range of sectors, all whilst promoting Wales, and the Welsh language and culture throughout the world.

Why participate?

Undertaking an international mobility can help students to develop their social, professional and intercultural skills, and enhance the transferrable skills and provide real-life experiences that are sought after by employers. Higher Education students who participate in an international mobility are more likely to find employment one year after graduation.

Taith is an inclusive programme which offers additional support for participants from disadvantaged backgrounds and with additional learning needs, enabling those with fewer opportunities to participate in transformational experiences.

Taith provides Higher Education staff in Wales with the exciting opportunity to internationalise their training and professional development. Participants can utilise funding to exchange best international practice within their fields and improve education and training standards within Welsh Higher Education, as well as establish or develop links and collaborate with international partners to build lasting relationships.

Researchers can gain valuable skills and experience by undertaking placements and collaborating with partners abroad. Taith provides opportunities for the circulation of skills and ideas internationally, whilst also helping to develop researchers’ professional development and academic performance. Participants can utilise funding to exchange best international practice within their fields and improve research standards in Wales and establish or develop links and collaborate with international partners to build valuable research partnerships.

Who can apply?

Any Welsh higher education institution (HEI) regulated or funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) can apply. We also accept applications from higher education providers who operate in Wales, whose courses have been specifically designated for the purposes of being eligible for student support.

Who can take part?

All students registered in a Higher Education and enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate taught programme leading to a recognised degree can take part, as well as all students enrolled on Foundation Degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or Certificate of Higher Education course. For work placement mobilities, recent higher education graduates may also participate within one year of graduation.

Eligible participants for Higher Education Research activities can be researchers employed by the sending organisation on an academic contract, postgraduate research students, including, but not limited to PhD students, registered and enrolled at the sending organisation, staff employed by the applying organisation supporting research activities, such as technicians, or other research specific professional services staff employed by the applying organisation.
