Mobilities
Funding is available to contribute towards the cost of international travel for staff and learners to a partner country, and for the international partner(s) to travel to Wales.
There is an expectation that you will send more participants from Wales to the international partner destination, than you will bring to Wales. However, it is permitted to split the mobility funding equally to allow the same number of inward and outward participants.
For staff mobilities, you must provide a clear rationale for the involvement of each staff member and what they will contribute to the development of the project and output. Where multiple staff mobilities are included, it is especially important to clearly explain the separate roles of each participant, and why their involvement is essential to the project.
Learners can participate in group mobilities only and individual learner mobilities are not eligible. Where a group of learners are included, a clear explanation of why their involvement in the project is essential to the development of the project and output should be provided.
Eligible mobility durations for staff and learners are a minimum of 2 days and a maximum of 28 days.
Taith funds the travel costs of thousands of international mobilities, most of which are flights, resulting in a large carbon footprint. Applicants are asked to carefully consider the duration of their mobilities, particularly when travelling to further destinations to ensure that all mobilities deliver maximum impact and represent value for money. Any mobility to or from a country located more than 12,000 km from Wales must have a minimum duration of 5 activity days.
Short preparatory visits are possible where risk assessments are required for learner mobilities, or for mobilities involving Disabled participants or participants with additional learning needs. Durations for preparatory visits are a minimum of 2 days and a maximum of 7 days. If you are applying for a preparatory visit, you should provide details of the planned duration and a clear justification for why a preparatory visit is needed in the application form.
Funding is awarded on a unit cost basis for travel and subsistence per participant. Additional funding will be available once a project has started to support the inclusion of Disabled participants, participants with additional learning needs and participants from disadvantaged backgrounds. Further information and eligibility criteria for inclusion costs can be found in the table below.
Physical mobilities are not a requirement of Pathway 2. Where they are not included, applications will need to provide a clear rationale for this and explain how the partnerships will be developed, and outputs created, without a physical mobility.
Grant rates for mobilities can be found below:
Subsistence
A grant for living expenses, which can include accommodation, food, and local transportation whilst on a physical mobility.
Funding is calculated as a daily rate per participant. The daily rate will reduce the longer the mobility, with different rates applicable for 1-14 days and 15-28 days.
Participants will not receive subsistence funding for virtual mobilities.
Travel
A contribution to the cost of travel for outward and inward mobilities. Funding rates are based on the distance between Wales and the international partner country.
Participant Type: All
Inclusion Support:
(Disabled people and those with Additional Learning Needs (ALN))
Participants who are Disabled or have additional learning needs are eligible for additional funding to support their involvement in a mobility (physical or virtual).
Funding will be held centrally by Taith and administered on an actual costs basis once participants are identified.
Inclusion Support:
(Participants from disadvantaged backgrounds )
Participants who are from a disadvantaged background are eligible for additional funding for travel related costs to support their involvement in a physical mobility. Travel related exceptional costs include costs of visas, passports, vaccinations, health insurance, appropriate clothing and luggage, as necessary.
Funding will be held centrally by Taith and administered on an actual costs basis once participants are identified.
Exceptional Costs:
( Travel to and from a UK transport hub )
A contribution to the cost of travel to and from a UK transport hub as part of international mobility. A UK transport hub is defined by Taith as a departure point from which the mobility departs to its international destination. For example, an airport, train station, port or bus station.
Funding is available for learner group mobilities, and for staff mobilities for participants from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Funding will be held centrally by Taith and administered on an actual costs basis once participants are identified.
Green Travel
Participants that use green travel options for the whole journey (to and from the destination) can apply for actual costs for their travel (where costs are higher than the allocated travel rate). Evidence of best value for money will be required as part of this additional funding request
Green travel costs are available for distances between 100km and 3999km.
Funding will be held centrally by Taith and administered on an actual costs basis once participants are identified.
