Why participate?

International experiences have been shown to have positive impacts on learners’ personal development, learning outcomes and future employability, particularly for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. They allow learners to develop valuable knowledge and skills while experiencing new cultures and languages. Learners often return with increased confidence, independence, and motivation to learn.

Through working in partnerships all over the world teachers gain fresh perspectives, observe innovative teaching methods and discover new resources and tools to bring back to the classroom. These experiences enrich learners’ education and support the ongoing development of Curriculum for Wales.

Opportunities are also available to non-teaching staff to collaborate internationally, enabling the sharing of best practice, and professional development.

A group of primary school children sat around a table on a boat on a river and smiling at the camera. There are colourful buildings along the banks of the river.

Taith encourages participation from people from underrepresented groups and is committed to removing barriers to participation.  Additional financial support is available for learners and staff from disadvantaged backgrounds, for Disabled people and people with additional learning needs.

Schools that successfully complete a Taith project will be awarded the Foundation level of the British Council’s International School Award. This award recognises schools that demonstrate a commitment to embedding international awareness and understanding across the classroom and wider school community. Awarded schools will receive a certificate of achievement, along with expert feedback and guidance from the British Council to help further develop and sustain their international work.
