Five‑day visit to Bosnia offers powerful learning opportunity for Cardiff and Vale College students

In June 2025, Cardiff and Vale College took ten learners from a range of courses on a five-day educational visit to Bosnia. The trip offered an opportunity to explore the legacy of the 1990s genocide and its enduring impact on the country and its people.

Led by Josephine Grech, the college’s Anti‑Racism Lead, the visit brought learners together to hear directly from survivors, visit significant historical sites such as Srebrenica, and witness first‑hand how the trauma of conflict continues to shape daily life. The project not only deepened students’ understanding of genocide, cultural respect, and global citizenship, but also opened doors to experiences many would not otherwise have had.

Through emotional reflection, immersive learning, and encounters that challenged their perceptions, the experience has left a lasting mark on the learners, shaping their studies, inspiring further advocacy work, and strengthening their empathy for communities affected by conflict.

This video shares their journey, what they learned, and the impact the experience continues to have long after returning home.
