Ysgol Alexandra enabled pupils who have never travelled beyond Wrexham to build confidence, broaden their horizons and see the world through a new lens
In March 2026, Ysgol Alexandra took a group of Year 6 pupils from Wrexham to Barcelona through a Taith-funded project designed to develop confidence, curiosity, communication skills and aspirations for the future.
Many of these young people face significant barriers and had never travelled beyond their local area. For some, this was their first time leaving Wrexham, flying on an aeroplane, visiting another country or meeting young people from a different culture.
Working alongside pupils from a partner school, they explored culture, identity and community while discovering one of Europe’s most vibrant cities.
The project was designed to create transformative experiences for young people who might never have had the opportunity to travel internationally. Through exposure to new places, people and perspectives, pupils developed confidence, broadened their horizons and gained a greater sense of what they can achieve.
The impact extended beyond those who travelled. On their return, pupils shared their experiences with classmates, families and the wider community, inspiring other young people to think bigger, embrace new opportunities and look beyond their hometown.
