FE colleges tackling misogyny through international collaboration

Led by ColegauCymru, this Taith Pathway 2 project brought colleges across Wales together with international partners to tackle misogyny and promote respectful relationships in Further Education.

Prompted by growing concerns highlighted in the Estyn 2023 report, ‘Peer-on-peer sexual harassment among 16 – 18-year-olds in Further Education (FE) colleges’, the project created a national and international response rooted in collaboration, learning and action.  Through sustained online engagement, in-person visits, and partnerships with specialist organisations, colleges have worked collaboratively to address misogynistic attitudes and build cultures of respect.

A key output from the project has been the creation of an international Community of Practice, connecting colleges across Wales with colleges and universities in Canada, alongside expert organisations such as She Is Not Your Rehab and Our Voice Our Journey. This Community of Practice provided space for honest dialogue, shared learning, and the exchange of practical approaches to engaging young people, particularly young men, in conversations about respectful relationships, accountability and behaviour change.

This project highlights what Taith Pathway 2 projects are designed to do: address shared sector challenges through strategic international partnerships, ensuring that impact goes beyond individual organisations and contributes to lasting change across education in Wales.
