Adults with learning disabilities gain confidence, cultural experiences and lifelong friendships through The Tenby Project CIC
In May 2026, The Tenby Project CIC, a community hub based in West Wales, took a group of adult learners with learning disabilities to Ireland. For many participants, it was the first time they had travelled without close family members, and for some, their first experience of travelling abroad.
Through careful preparation, dedicated support and collaboration with Irish partners, the project enabled participants to experience a new culture, develop greater independence, build lasting friendships and grow in confidence. During the exchange, they also learned about ‘Make Way Day’, an Irish initiative that identifies and highlights barriers affecting people with mobility needs, helping to create more accessible and inclusive communities.
Their story demonstrates the transformative power of international learning. It shows that, when the right support is in place, opportunities to connect, learn and grow beyond borders can and should be accessible to everyone.
