3. Pathway information

3.1. Project durations
The project durations for all Pathway 2 projects are:
- 12 months
- 18 months
- 24 months
3.2. Funding
It is not permitted to double fund activities already funded through other national or international funding programmes. However, co-funding of activities with other programmes is allowed. Where projects are co-funded, applying organisations should provide details of these arrangements in their application form.
Funding available per sector:
Sector | Indicative budget available |
---|---|
Schools | £280,000 |
Youth | £126,000 |
Adult Education | £84,000 |
FE & VET | £170,000 |
Inclusivity and accessibility are a strategic focus for Taith, and the programme is looking to fund as many and as wide a range of organisations as possible. As such, the maximum award for each Pathway 2 project will be £60,000. When completing the application form and grant calculator, please ensure that the total grant request does not exceed £60,000, and that the amount requested for your international partner(s) does not exceed 30% of the total grant request. Information on how to apply can be found in section 4.
3.3. Themes
Pathway 2 projects must align with at least one of the identified Taith themes. The themes for the Pathway 2 (2024) funding call are detailed below:
Developments in education
Projects under this theme should align with relevant developments taking place within the applying organisation’s sector:
- Curriculum for Wales
- National Youth Work Strategy for Wales and the recommendations set out in ‘Time to deliver for young people in Wales’
- Medr (including the strategic priorities and duties relevant for the Adult Education sector)

- Developments in climate change education
- Green practices / Green economy

Themes will be set annually and may change in future years.
3.4. Project outputs
The focus of Pathway 2 is the creation of high quality, impactful, measurable project outputs, which are of value to other organisations and the sector(s) across Wales.
Taith is open to innovation and new ideas and welcomes and encourages applying organisations to propose project outputs which best work for them and their sector. Project outputs can be in a range of different formats such as written, visual, video, workshops etc. Examples of project outputs could include (but are not limited to):
- New models or methods
- Resources/toolkits
- Training/teaching materials
- Digital resources/outputs
3.5. Dissemination
A key aspect of Pathway 2 is the requirement for project outputs to be shared and disseminated. Applying organisations will need to demonstrate clearly how they intend to share the results of their project, and with whom. Dissemination activity must be appropriate and accessible to the sector(s), and relevant for the format and intention of the project output. Examples of dissemination activities could include (but are not limited to):
- An event/conference/workshop
- The sharing of resources through an online platform, or through an app (* please note, funding for such a resource where an annual fee occurs will not be covered by Taith)
- Training sessions for individuals/organisations to develop knowledge and understanding of the chosen theme(s)
3.6. Eligible activities and costs
Pathway 2 will fund activities which lead to the creation, development and dissemination of project outputs addressing one or more of the identified Taith themes. Pathway 2 is centred on the development of strategic collaborations, and applications must therefore clearly demonstrate how Welsh and international partners will collaborate to achieve a common aim.
International partner organisations are eligible to receive up to 30% of the total grant requested.
Applying organisations must provide clear detail and justification in the application form for the funding requested for each activity type, and overall. Taith is fully funded by the Welsh Government, and it is essential that all costs present value for money, are clearly explained and justified.
Eligible activities are detailed below. If you have questions about the eligible activities or want to check that the activities or costs you are planning are eligible, please get in touch with the team on enquiries@taith.wales.
Mobilities (outward and inward)
Funding is available for international travel for staff and learners to a partner country, and for the international partner(s) to travel to Wales.
The number of inward participants from the international partner must be equal to or less than the number of outward participants from Wales.
We encourage international mobilities for both staff and learners, but clear justification for their involvement must be provided.
For staff mobilities, you must provide a clear rationale for the involvement of each staff member and what they will contribute to the development of the project and project output. Where multiple staff mobilities are included, it is especially important to be clear as to the roles of each, and why their involvement is essential to the project.
Learners can participate in group mobilities only, individual learner mobilities are not eligible. Where a group of learners are included, a clear explanation of why their involvement in the project is essential to the development of the project should be provided.
Eligible mobility durations for staff and learners are a minimum of 2 days and a maximum of 28 days. Short preparatory visits are eligible where risks assessments are required prior to learner mobilities, or those involving Disabled staff or staff with additional learning needs. Durations for preparatory visits are a minimum of 2 days and a maximum of 7 days. If you are applying for a preparatory visit, you should provide details of the planned duration, together with a clear justification for why a preparatory visit is needed, in the application form.
Funding is awarded on a unit cost basis for travel and subsistence per participant. Additional funding is available to support the inclusion of Disabled participants, participants with additional learning needs and participants from disadvantaged backgrounds. Further information and eligibility criteria relating to these inclusion costs can be found below.
Physical mobilities are not a requirement of Pathway 2. Where they are not included, applications will need to provide a clear rationale for this and provide detailed evidence demonstrating how the partnerships will be developed, and outputs created, via other means.
Grant rates for mobilities can be found below:
Subsistence
A grant for living expenses, which can include accommodation, food, and local transportation whilst on a physical mobility.
Funding is calculated as a daily rate per participant. The daily rate will reduce the longer the mobility, with different rates applicable for 1-14 days and 15-28 days.
Participants will not receive subsistence funding for virtual mobilities.

3.7. Inclusion support
Additional funding is available to support participants facing financial barriers to participation. There are two types of inclusion support available – for Disabled people and those with additional learning needs (ALN), and for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. This funding is based on actual costs, intended to cover the full cost relating to removing the barrier to participation. As such, it is expected that Grant Recipients source options which offer the best value for money.
Funding will be held centrally by Taith and administered once participants are identified. Grant Recipients will be required to apply for funding via the completion of a request form detailing the actual costs per participant and justification.
Disabled people and people with additional learning needs
Additional funding is available for Disabled participants and those with additional learning needs of up to 100% of actual costs for support directly related to their additional needs.
This may include aspects such as: preparatory visits to carry out risk assessments and ensure the placement has the necessary access and support in place; to fund additional staff members to support participants; and/or to pay for equipment/adjustments/resources necessary for participation.
Disadvantaged participants
Participants who meet one or more of the following criteria will be classified as disadvantaged and will be eligible for additional funding for travel related costs to support their involvement in a physical mobility.
- Participants with a total household income below £26,225.
- Participants receiving Universal Credit or income-related benefits in their own name.
- Learners who are eligible for means tested free school meals.
